Here in Arkansas, it's OFFICIALLY strawberry season, and I could not be more excited to get into the kitchen. Whether you're picking them fresh from the vine at a strawberry farm, supporting your local farmers, or buying strawberries at a grocery store, any of these 40 recipes will help you celebrate the season.
In this post, you'll find everything from easy breakfasts to show-stopping desserts. But first, let’s talk about when to snag the best strawberries and how to clean them like a pro.
When Exactly Is Strawberry Season?
Strawberries are at their peak from late April through June in most parts of the U.S., though the season can stretch earlier or later depending on your region. During this time, the berries are brighter, sweeter, and more flavorful—nothing like the off-season ones shipped in from far away.
If you’ve never visited a local strawberry farm, add it to your spring bucket list! U-pick fields are a fun way to get outdoors, support local growers, and stock up on the freshest berries you’ll ever taste.
How to Clean Strawberries the Right Way
Before diving into all the recipes, make sure your berries are ready for the spotlight. Strawberries are delicate, so cleaning them the right way keeps them fresher longer and prevents sogginess.
Here’s how to clean strawberries like a pro:
- Wait to wash until you’re ready to use them. Moisture speeds up spoilage, so don’t rinse until you need them.
- Use a vinegar bath to remove dirt and pesticides. Mix 1 part white vinegar with 3 parts water in a large bowl. Gently swirl the berries for 1–2 minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly with cold water and lay them out on a clean towel to dry completely.
- Hull after washing, not before. Removing the green tops before washing can make them waterlogged.
Pro tip: If you’ve got a big haul, freeze some for smoothies and baking later. Just wash, dry, hull, and freeze on a baking sheet before transferring to a bag.
