How to Make Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Bars
Even if you're a novice in the kitchen, you can easily make these peanut butter bars with a cake mix.
To get started, place your oven rack in the middle position and preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. (177 degrees C.)
STEP 1 - MIX CRUST AND TOPPING INGREDIENTS
Now, in a large mixing bowl, combine yellow cake mix, melted butter, peanut butter, and both eggs in a large bowl, mix until combined.
STEP 2 - PRESS CRUST INTO PAN
Reserving 1½ cups of your mixture to crumble on top, press the cake batter into a 9X13 baking pan.
STEP 3 - MAKE CHOCOLATE FILLING
Next, melt chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter together in a small pot over medium to medium-low heat. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
STEP 4 - ADD CHOCOLATE FILLING AND TOPPING
Now, spread the chocolate mixture over the batter that's already pressed into the pan, and then crumble the 1½ cups of reserved cake mixture evenly on top.
STEP 5 - BAKE
Finally, bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Take out of the oven and cool completely before cutting into bars.
Erin's Tips & Tricks
- Melting Chocolate: Do not turn the heat in your pot with the chocolate up too high, or the chocolate mixture will burn.
- Flavor Option: You can add half peanut butter chips and half semi-sweet for a fun twist.
- Other Add-Ins: You can add nuts, toasted coconut, or butterscotch chips.
- Storing: You can store your cooked and cooled bars in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
How To Store Your Peanut Butter Chocolate Bar Recipe
You can store your Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake Bars in an airtight container on the counter for about 5 days.
To Freeze:
PB Chocolate Bars freeze well. Place them in a freezer-safe, airtight container, label and date them, and store them in the freezer for up to 3 months.
To thaw, simply remove the cake mix bars from the freezer and keep them at room temperature. If you want them to have a fresh-baked flavor, you can always rebake them at 250 degrees F.

I don't want to go to Target to get the ingredients and supplies. I want you to do a mail order business, Erin! 🙂 I wanted to reach through the screen and grab one to eat...ok, I would have grabbed two more when you weren't looking lol 🙂
Caroline
This looks seriously yummy, I love anything peanut butter related! We don't have the yellow cake mix in England, so I'd have to find somthing similar. Maybe vanilla cake mix?
Erin
Yes, I think vanilla Cake Mix would work just fine, Caroline. The combo of peanut butter and chocolate is wonderful.
