- ⅓ cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pink food coloring {optional}
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray Whoopie Pie pan with non-stick spray.
- In large bowl, beat butter and sugar with electric mixer on medium until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add egg and vanilla; beat until well combined.

- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the top of the cake springs back when touched.

- To assemble pies, spread about 1 tablespoon filling on one cake and sandwich with another cake.
Filling
- In large bowl, beat butter with mixer until creamy.
- Add sugar and salt to the butter; mix well.
- Add marshmallow creme and vanilla; blend well.

They look almost *too* sweet. I think I'd overdose on sugar! Lol. I've never tried whoopie pies before, can you believe it?

I'd never had them until recently. The kids really liked them. The buttermilk cuts the sweetness, so they are perfect!

This looks like a great recipe! I don't bake very often but I will pass this along to someone I know who will love it!
Erin
Yes, anyone who bakes would love them. Baking is a little like therapy for me, so every once in a while I bake and them give them all away! Makes everything better 🙂

My daughter-in-law in Texas is always making whoopie pies and I've yet to ever do so. I'm printing your recipe and will have to try these. I had no clue they had pans in all those various shapes.
Erin
Yes,the heart-shaped pan really makes these cute. You could certainly use the recipe in a regular shaped one too! Enjoy and let me know how they turn out!

Jessica
These are adorable, and I love whoopie pies! When my husband and I lived in California, most people had never even heard of them, and most of the ones that had heard of them, were familiar with impostor whoopie pies- with regular icing in them, not marshmallow creme goodness!I can't wait to try this recipe!!
Erin
I think they are adorable too! Homemade goodness, not those store bought imposters!
Lynn
Hi Erin, this recipe would surely make me immensely popular with my son and husband. Since I have done exactly ZERO in terms of Valentine's Day, it would seem the least i could do would be to make them these outstanding looking whoopie pies. You just might have rescued me from being a really slack mom!
Thanks!
Hugs and Kisses, Lynn
