Instructions
In the order listed, layer ingredients in a 1 quart jar.
Attach the following instructions to the jar:
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl with an electric mixer, combine ½ cup softened, unsalted butter, 1 large egg, and 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
Add the entire jar of ingredients to the butter mixture.
Using a wooden spoon, mix all ingredients until fully incorporated. This may take a little effort, but it will come together.
Use a medium cookie scoop to measure and drop dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Place them about 2-inches apart.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool on baking sheets for about 2 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Make sure to spoon and level the flour. Spoon the flour out of its container, place it in the measuring cup, and then level it with a knife. If you scoop it with the measuring cup, the flour will compact, which affects the final measurement.
Plan ahead to make multiple mason jars. This recipe is the perfect size for a one-quart size mason jar. So, if you make more than one at a time, which we highly recommend since you're getting all the ingredients out, you'll need multiple jars.
You can make this cookie-in-a-jar recipe up to a month before you gift it.
